Lemongrass can be used as a spice, in hot and cold teas, but also will make excellent mulch so you do not have to buy as much later. 2. Tomatoes will require support cages. The French Marigolds will repel pests. Nasturium (and other herbs) will improve the harvest and flavor of the tomatoes. 3. The beans and cucumbers should run on opposite sides of the same trellis. The plan calls for bush type beans at the bottom and vining beans to run up verically maximizing your space and harvest. 4. The Malabar spinch will vine up the opposite end of the beans. The leaves are edible spinach and the flower buds are edible and taste like asparagus x spinach hybrid. It is a faster way to get an asparagus like plant that also give you spinch, but you do not have to wait 3 years for aspragus. You can also leave it to flower and is beautiful. 5. The potatoes should be grown in place in 25 gallon buckets to make harvesting easier, but can be put in the ground if you wish. Broccoli is positioned to help potato production and flavor and assist cucumbers and Broccoli repel prests and cabbage worms. (Did you want sweet potatoes as well?) 6. Okra and large suflowers make thick stalks that can help the cateloupes vine, so they don't rot on the ground, but you will need some additional poles and support bags to cradle the canteloupes. This would also be a good place for watermelon if you want. 7. Jamaian Sorrel is a type of Hibiscus flowering plant but that make calyx that are used to make juice or jelly/preserves that tastes like a cross between strawberry and cranberry. They also make gorgeous flowers for pollinators....which make for more produce out of your garden! 8. Pumpkin can either grow on the ground or you can make it vine with a sturdy trellis, but they take up alot of space to sprawl. We can also run some small pie pumpkins if you want that wouldn't take as long to grow/harvest but still give you seeds to roast.....and pie to enjoy!
